What it is

The High Tech Pet MS-5 is a specialized ultrasonic transmitter designed to act as the primary key for Power Pet automatic doors. Unlike standard RFID collars, this unit uses digital circuitry to emit a high frequency signal that triggers the door only when your pet is in direct range. The rugged, waterproof housing is built to withstand active outdoor lifestyles, ensuring the internal electronics remain dry even if your dog enjoys jumping in puddles or playing in the snow. This updated model focuses on signal consistency across varying temperatures, preventing the common issue of range drift during winter or summer months. The lightweight design makes it suitable for both large breeds and smaller cats, though the strap may require trimming for the latter. It serves a dual purpose by also working with the brand's sonic fencing systems, making it a versatile tool for owners who use the full ecosystem of High Tech Pet products.

Ravvy AI insight

While the MS-5 offers superior waterproofing compared to the MS-4, its ultrasonic technology requires precise directional alignment to function optimally. We recommend mounting the unit at the bottom of the pet's neck to ensure the speaker faces the door sensor for the most reliable triggering.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Signal Strength

Position the transmitter at the very bottom of the pet collar so the speaker points downward and forward. This ensures the ultrasonic waves hit the door sensor directly as the pet approaches.

Ownership tips

care

Maintaining Water Seals

Check the battery compartment seal periodically for hair or debris. Wiping the exterior with a damp cloth after muddy play sessions prevents dirt from muffling the ultrasonic speaker.

tip

Battery Management

Always keep a spare B3V1A battery on hand because the ultrasonic output can drop off quickly when the voltage gets low. If the door starts acting sluggish, the battery is likely the culprit.

Frequently asked questions

Does this collar work with other brands of automatic doors?

No, the MS-5 uses proprietary ultrasonic frequencies specifically tuned for High Tech Pet Power Pet doors and sonic barriers. It will not trigger RFID or infrared doors from other manufacturers.

Is the MS-5 small enough for a cat?

Yes, the transmitter itself is very compact and lightweight. While the included 27 inch strap is long, it can be easily cut down to size or the transmitter can be moved to a smaller existing cat collar.

Can I use this for swimming?

The MS-5 is waterproof and designed to survive immersion. However, if your pet is a frequent swimmer, ensure the unit is thoroughly dried afterward to prevent moisture from eventually compromising the battery contacts.

How long does the battery typically last?

Battery life varies based on how frequently the pet uses the door, but most users report between 2 to 4 months of service. Cold weather may slightly reduce this lifespan.
