What it is

The Super Smile Dentist Play Set transforms a typically intimidating medical visit into a hands-on exploration of oral hygiene. Centered around a large hinged set of teeth, this kit allows children to practice realistic procedures like applying braces, cleaning cavities with stickers, and even performing extractions on wiggly teeth. The inclusion of a vibrating tool adds a sensory element that mimics the real sounds and feelings of a dental office without being overwhelming. Constructed primarily from durable plastic rather than the brand's traditional wood, the set remains sturdy enough for the rigors of preschool play. It excels at teaching empathy and fine motor skills as kids navigate small spaces with the mirror and pick. By putting the child in the role of the provider, it effectively demystifies dental tools, making it an excellent preparatory tool for children who struggle with anxiety during real-life checkups.

Ravvy AI insight

While Melissa and Doug is famous for wood, the choice of plastic here is intentional for hygiene and realistic detail in the tools. The vibrating tool is the standout feature because it habituates children to the specific tactile vibrations that cause the most distress during actual dental cleanings.

How to get the most out of it

Using the Cavity Stickers

Apply the black cavity stickers to the teeth before play starts. Have your child use the vibrating tool to 'drill' them away, which helps them understand why the dentist uses loud tools to keep teeth healthy.

Ownership tips

care

Cleaning the Plastic Parts

Since these toys often go near a child's mouth during pretend play, wipe the plastic tools down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid submerging the vibrating tool in water to protect the internal battery compartment.

tip

Store in the Original Tray

Keep the plastic insert from the packaging or use a dedicated bin. Because the set relies on many small parts like braces and gauze pads, losing one can make certain role-play scenarios less effective.

Frequently asked questions

Does the drill actually rotate or just vibrate?

The tool is designed to vibrate rather than rotate. This provides a realistic sensory experience and sound without the risk of tangling hair or causing injury to skin during play.

Are the teeth made of wood or plastic?

The hinged teeth and most of the medical tools in this specific set are made of high-quality, durable plastic. This allows for more intricate details like the flossing tracks and the wiggly tooth mechanism.

Is this set suitable for a 2 year old?

The manufacturer recommends this for ages 3 and up due to several small parts like the tooth polish cups and retainers which could be choking hazards for younger children.

Can you actually use real floss on the teeth?

Yes, the set includes pretend floss, but the gaps between the teeth are designed so that a child can practice the physical motion of flossing, which is great for developing fine motor skills.
