What it is

The 2024 Surface Laptop marks a significant shift for Microsoft, ditching traditional Intel chips for the Snapdragon X Plus processor. This change results in a machine that finally rivals the MacBook Air in terms of thermal efficiency and longevity. The 13.8 inch PixelSense display remains a highlight, offering a tall 3:2 aspect ratio that is perfect for productivity and document editing, while the haptic touchpad provides a premium tactile experience. Under the hood, the Copilot+ architecture introduces dedicated AI processing via the NPU, enabling features like real-time captions and enhanced video effects. While the transition to ARM architecture means some legacy software requires emulation, most daily productivity apps run natively and lightning fast. The Dune finish adds a unique, sophisticated aesthetic to a chassis that feels incredibly sturdy despite its lightweight, three pound frame.

Ravvy AI insight

The Snapdragon X Plus offers a sweet spot for value, providing high-end NPU performance for AI tasks without the price premium of the X Elite. Buyers should verify that their specific VPN or specialized drivers are ARM-compatible, though most mainstream apps now run seamlessly.
