What it is

Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets FortiFlora stands as a cornerstone in feline digestive health, utilizing the specific Enterococcus faecium SF68 strain to rebalance intestinal flora. Unlike generic supplements, this powder utilizes a proprietary microencapsulation process to ensure the live microorganisms survive the journey through the cat's stomach acid to reach the gut where they are needed most. It is frequently the first line of defense recommended by veterinarians for cats struggling with loose stools caused by stress, dietary changes, or antibiotic therapy. The palatability of this supplement is its secret weapon. Most cat owners find that the savory flavor profile acts as a meal enhancer, making it useful for picky eaters or cats who have lost their appetite due to illness. Beyond simple digestion, the inclusion of antioxidants and vitamins provides broad immune system support, making it a versatile tool for long term wellness or short term recovery from gastrointestinal distress.

Ravvy AI insight

While the ingredient list is short, the SF68 strain is one of the most clinically researched probiotics for cats. Buyers should note that while it effectively firms stools, it is often used as a flavor enhancer for sick cats, which adds secondary value for those struggling with feline anorexia.

How to get the most out of it

Transitioning with Antibiotics

When your vet prescribes antibiotics, start FortiFlora immediately. To ensure the probiotic isn't killed by the medication, administer the supplement at least 2 to 3 hours apart from the antibiotic dose.

Ownership tips

tip

Use as a Meal Topper

If your cat is refusing their therapeutic diet, sprinkle half a packet of FortiFlora on top. The animal digest flavor is highly attractive to cats and can jumpstart their appetite during illness.

care

Storage for Potency

Keep the box in a cool, dry place. While the microencapsulation helps with stability, extreme heat can degrade the live cultures over time, reducing the supplement's effectiveness.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for FortiFlora to work?

Many owners see an improvement in stool consistency within 2 to 5 days. However, for chronic conditions or immune support, it is best to complete the full 30-day course as recommended by a veterinarian.

Can I give this to my kitten?

Yes, FortiFlora is formulated for cats of all ages. It is particularly helpful for kittens during weaning or when moving to a new home, as these stressors often cause digestive upset.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

No, this product is shelf-stable thanks to Purina's microencapsulation process. Just ensure it is stored at room temperature and kept away from direct sunlight or high humidity.

What if my cat doesn't like the taste?

It is very rare for a cat to dislike FortiFlora because it is flavored with animal digest, which mimics the smell of protein. If they are hesitant, try mixing it thoroughly into wet food rather than sprinkling it on top.
