What it is

The Samsonite Winfield 2 is a staple in the world of hardside luggage, offering a balance between weight and protection that frequent travelers appreciate. Built with 100 percent polycarbonate, this 28-inch spinner is engineered to absorb impacts by flexing under stress and then popping back to its original shape. The brushed anthracite finish serves a dual purpose, providing a modern aesthetic while cleverly concealing the inevitable scuffs and scratches that occur during airport handling. Inside, the suitcase maximizes its large footprint with a full zip divider and organizational pockets. The addition of a 1.5-inch expansion feature provides that necessary bit of extra room for souvenirs or bulky winter clothing. While its size is substantial, the four multi-directional spinner wheels ensure the bag remains maneuverable even when fully loaded, reducing the physical strain on your arms and shoulders during long walks through terminals.

Ravvy AI insight

The Winfield 2 occupies the 'sweet spot' of value, offering a 100 percent polycarbonate shell which is significantly more durable than the cheaper ABS plastic often found at this price point. We recommend this specific brushed finish because it maintains a professional look longer than high-gloss alternatives. For the best experience, utilize the expansion feature only when necessary to ensure the bag remains stable and within standard airline dimensions.

Ownership tips

care

Maintaining the Shell

To keep the brushed anthracite finish looking new, wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap after each trip. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could strip the protective coating or dull the metallic sheen.

tip

Optimizing Weight Distribution

Place your heaviest items like shoes and books near the bottom of the suitcase by the wheels. This lowers the center of gravity and prevents the bag from tipping over when you are using the expansion feature.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 28-inch size considered oversized for most airlines?

While it is a standard large checked bag, using the expansion feature can sometimes push it over the 62 linear inch limit set by some domestic carriers. Always check your specific airline's dimensions before heading to the airport.

What is the benefit of polycarbonate over ABS plastic?

Polycarbonate is more flexible and impact-resistant than ABS. When it takes a hit, it flexes to absorb the energy and then returns to its shape, whereas ABS is more prone to cracking under high pressure.

Does this suitcase come with a key for the TSA lock?

No, it does not come with a key. TSA locks are designed so that only authorized security personnel have a master key to open the bag for inspection without damaging the lock. You use the combination dial.

Are the wheels replaceable if they break?

Yes, Samsonite designs these wheels to be replaceable. If a wheel is damaged during transit, you can contact Samsonite's customer service to utilize the 10-year warranty or purchase replacement parts.
