What it is

The SOLIOM 4K Solar Security System represents a significant jump in residential surveillance autonomy. By combining 8MP resolution with integrated solar panels, this four camera kit eliminates the need for professional electrical installation while delivering crisp imagery that makes identifying faces and license plates genuinely possible from a distance. The standout feature is the intelligent linking system, which tracks a subject across multiple camera zones to create a cohesive timeline of events, rather than a disjointed series of clips. Technically, the system differentiates itself by using radar based motion detection. Unlike traditional PIR sensors that can be fooled by heat waves or wind blown foliage, radar is much more discerning, significantly reducing the annoyance of false notifications. The inclusion of the SOLIOMbase provides a localized, subscription free storage hub, ensuring that your data remains under your roof rather than on a recurring monthly bill. The 360 degree pan and tilt functionality on each unit ensures that even large perimeters are fully covered without blind spots.

Ravvy AI insight

The use of radar detection in this price bracket is a major advantage because it performs reliably in extreme weather where standard sensors fail. While the 15fps frame rate is standard for solar units to conserve battery, users should focus on the 'Tracking Zoom' feature which helps compensate for digital zoom pixelation by following subjects dynamically.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Solar Exposure

Use the included 10 foot extension cables to place the solar panels on the sunniest part of your roof or wall, even if the camera itself is mounted in a shaded area. Ensure the panels face south in the northern hemisphere for maximum year round charging.

Ownership tips

tip

Reducing Alert Fatigue

Adjust the radar sensitivity settings within the Soliom app to filter out small animals if you only wish to be notified of human presence. This also helps extend the battery life during periods of heavy activity.

care

Lens and Sensor Maintenance

Wipe the camera lens and the radar sensor face with a soft, damp microfiber cloth every few months. Dust or salt spray buildup can soften 4K details and reduce the effectiveness of the motion tracking.
