What it is

The TP-Link Omada EAP720 brings next-generation Wi-Fi 7 technology into an affordable, ceiling-mounted form factor. By utilizing 4K-QAM and Multi-Link Operation, it delivers a theoretical 5.0 Gbps of aggregate throughput, ensuring that high-density environments stay responsive even during peak usage. The inclusion of a 2.5G Ethernet port is a critical touch, preventing the wired connection from becoming a bottleneck for the high-speed wireless radios. Designed for the Omada ecosystem, this access point shines when paired with a central controller for seamless roaming and mesh capabilities. While it supports standalone mode, the true value lies in the enterprise-grade features like VLAN segmenting and PPSK, which allow for granular network control. The package is surprisingly complete for the price point, even including a DC power adapter for those not yet equipped with PoE+ injectors or switches.

Ravvy AI insight

The EAP720 is currently the price-to-performance leader in the Wi-Fi 7 AP market. While it lacks the 6GHz band found in more expensive BE units, its 2.5G port and 4K-QAM support offer a significant real-world upgrade over Wi-Fi 6 for compatible modern clients.

Ownership tips

tip

Use a 2.5G Switch

Pair this access point with a 2.5GbE switch. Using a standard Gigabit switch will throttle the wireless performance to 1000Mbps, wasting the potential of the Wi-Fi 7 radio.

care

Ceiling Mounting for Heat

Mount the device on a ceiling or high wall as intended. The chassis acts as a heat sink, and proper vertical airflow prevents thermal throttling during heavy data transfers.
