What it is

The Callaway Supersoft has established itself as a staple for amateur golfers who prioritize feel over professional-grade spin. By utilizing a HyperElastic SoftFast Core, Callaway has engineered a ball that compresses easily even with moderate swing speeds, translating into more linear distance and less unwanted side spin. This design helps players stay in the fairway more consistently than high-compression tour balls. The hybrid cover is the standout feature here, bridging the gap between a hard distance ball and a soft control ball. While it is a two-piece construction, the cover offers enough wedge grip to feel confident on approach shots and chips. It provides a distinctively muted sound at impact and a plush sensation off the putter face that many golfers find reassuring on fast greens.

Ravvy AI insight

At its current price point, this ball offers the best ratio of durability to performance for the average hobbyist. While advanced players might find the launch too high, the low compression rating is a technical advantage for anyone swinging under 90 mph. Focus on using these for straight-line accuracy rather than trying to manufacture complex shot shapes.

Ownership tips

tip

Ideal Temperature Use

These low-compression balls perform exceptionally well in cold weather. When the air is dense and hard balls feel like rocks, the Supersoft maintains its elastic properties for better distance.

care

Cleaning the Hybrid Cover

To maintain the grip of the hybrid cover, wipe the balls with a damp microfiber cloth after every hole. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could dull the aerodynamic dimple pattern.

Frequently asked questions

What is the compression rating of the Callaway Supersoft?

The Callaway Supersoft features a very low compression rating of approximately 38. This allows golfers with slower swing speeds to fully compress the ball for maximum energy transfer.

Is this a good ball for beginners?

Yes, it is one of the most recommended balls for beginners. Its design minimizes side spin, which helps keep the ball straighter and prevents the severe curves that lead to lost balls.

How does the hybrid cover differ from urethane?

The hybrid cover is designed for a mix of durability and soft feel. While it does not provide as much 'stop and drop' spin as a professional urethane ball, it is much more resistant to scuffs and lasts longer.

Will this ball help me hit it further?

If your swing speed is moderate or slow, yes. The core reacts more efficiently to slower impacts than a high-compression tour ball would, likely resulting in a few extra yards of carry.
