What it is

The Eureka PowerSpeed NEU280 offers an impressive balance of raw suction power and maneuverability for a sub-hundred-dollar upright. By utilizing an upgraded cyclone system, this model manages to keep fine dust away from the filter longer, maintaining consistent performance across large rooms. While many budget vacuums struggle with transitions, the five-setting height adjustment knob allows you to move from plush shag carpets to sensitive hardwood floors without risking scratches or losing suction seal. Despite its lightweight frame, the unit features a generous 1.9-liter dust cup that minimizes trips to the trash can. The onboard storage for the crevice tool and upholstery brush ensures you have the necessary tools for above-floor tasks without needing to carry a separate caddy. It is a pragmatic choice for those who need a primary vacuum for a multi-surface home but want to avoid the bulk and weight of traditional heavy-duty uprights.

Ravvy AI insight

This vacuum represents high value for shoppers who prioritize raw capacity and motor strength over luxury features like LED lights or self-cleaning brushrolls. The manual height adjustment is a critical feature that makes it more versatile than auto-sensing models in this price bracket. Prospective buyers should be prepared for routine brushroll maintenance to prevent hair wrap from affecting belt longevity.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Hard Floor Cleaning

Set the height adjustment dial to the lowest setting for hard floors. This creates the tightest seal against the surface to pick up fine dust and prevents debris from scattering.

Ownership tips

care

Bi-Weekly Brushroll Maintenance

To prevent the drive belt from snapping, remove tangled hair and debris from the roller every two weeks. This keeps the motor running cool and prevents smoke caused by friction.

tip

Filter Longevity

The foam filter is washable but must be completely dry before reinsertion. We recommend letting it air dry for a full 24 hours to prevent moisture from entering the motor.

Frequently asked questions

Does this vacuum work well on pet hair?

Yes, the PowerSpeed has strong suction that excels at pulling pet hair from carpets. However, because it lacks a tangle-free brushroll, you will need to manually remove hair from the bristles regularly.

Can the brushroll be turned off for hardwood floors?

The brushroll on the NEU280 model spins whenever the vacuum is reclined and turned on. The height adjustment helps lift the brushroll, but it does not have a separate on-off switch for the bristles.

Is the filter a HEPA filter?

This model uses a washable foam filter rather than a sealed HEPA system. While it captures the vast majority of dust and dander, users with severe allergies might prefer a model with a dedicated HEPA exhaust.

How long is the power cord?

The vacuum features a 25-foot power cord. This provides a decent cleaning radius for most standard rooms without needing to switch outlets frequently.
