What it is

The Kobo Libra Colour marks a significant evolution for dedicated reading devices by introducing the Kaleido 3 color screen. While traditional e-readers excel at text, this model brings book covers, graphic novels, and highlights to life with a soft, natural color palette that remains easy on the eyes. The ergonomic design includes a curved edge and physical page-turn buttons, ensuring comfort during long sessions whether you are reading in bed or by the pool thanks to its full waterproof rating. Beyond just consuming content, this device is a productivity powerhouse. With Kobo Stylus 2 compatibility, you can write directly on your ebooks or create dedicated notebooks. The 32GB of internal storage provides ample room for thousands of titles and audiobooks, while the integrated Bluetooth allows for seamless wireless headphone pairing. It bridges the gap between a standard black and white reader and a full-powered tablet without the distracting notifications or harsh blue light.

Ravvy AI insight

The transition to color e-ink results in a slightly lower contrast for black text because of the additional screen layers. To compensate, users should utilize the ComfortLight PRO feature to find a brightness sweet spot that makes the 'paper' look white rather than grey.

Ownership tips

tip

Adjusting for Contrast

Because color screens have an extra layer, the background may look slightly grey. Increase the brightness to at least 15 percent to make the text pop and the colors look more vivid.

care

Screen Protection

While the screen is durable, color e-ink displays are sensitive. Use a SleepCover to protect the display from scratches when it is in your bag to maintain visual clarity.

Frequently asked questions

Can I read in total darkness?

Yes, the Libra Colour features ComfortLight PRO. This allows you to adjust the brightness and the color temperature to reduce blue light, making it comfortable for nighttime reading.

Does it come with a stylus?

No, the Kobo Stylus 2 is sold separately. If you plan to use the device for handwriting or marking up documents, you will need to purchase the stylus as an additional accessory.

How long does the battery actually last?

Battery life depends on usage, but typical readers can expect about four weeks on a single charge. Frequent use of the color display at high brightness or constant Wi-Fi use will drain it faster.
