What it is

The Ruffwear Front Range is a staple in the canine adventure world, striking a balance between lightweight comfort and rugged utility. It features two leash attachment points: an aluminum V-ring on the back for standard strolls and reinforced webbing at the chest to help redirect dogs that tend to pull. The padded chest and belly panels utilize closed-cell foam to provide comfort during long treks without adding unnecessary bulk or causing friction against the skin. Designed for everyday use, this harness offers four points of adjustment to ensure a snug fit on various breeds. The inclusion of reflective trim and a dedicated loop for a safety light makes it a smart choice for owners who walk their dogs in the early morning or late evening. It is a no-nonsense piece of gear that focuses on ergonomics and safety for active pets.

Ravvy AI insight

While the dual-attachment points are excellent for training, the front webbing loop is not as durable as the aluminum rear ring. For persistent pullers, use the front loop strictly for redirection rather than high-tension restraint to extend the product lifespan. The four-point adjustment system is superior to basic step-in harnesses, making this a high-value choice for oddly shaped mixed breeds.

How to get the most out of it

Fitting the Harness

Ensure you can fit two fingers between the harness and your dog's body at all four adjustment points. This prevents the harness from shifting during movement while ensuring your dog can breathe and move shoulders freely.

Ownership tips

tip

Using the Front Loop

Use the chest attachment point when teaching your dog not to pull. When they tension the leash, the harness naturally pivots their body back toward you, breaking their forward momentum without causing neck strain.

care

Cleaning and Longevity

Hand wash with mild detergent and air dry in the shade. Avoid machine washing or drying, as high heat and agitation can degrade the foam padding and weaken the plastic buckles over time.

Frequently asked questions

Is this harness good for dogs that pull?

Yes, it features a reinforced webbing loop on the chest designed to redirect dogs that pull. By attaching the leash to the front, you gain more leverage to guide your dog back to your side during walks.

Can my dog wear this harness all day?

The Front Range is designed for extended wear with padded chest and belly panels to prevent chafing. However, it is always recommended to check for any signs of irritation after several hours of use, especially in hot weather.

Does it have a handle on the back?

No, the Front Range model does not include a top handle for lifting. If you need a handle for assisting your dog over obstacles, you might consider the Ruffwear Web Master harness instead.

How do I attach a safety light?

There is a dedicated fabric loop located on the top of the harness near the neck. This loop is specifically designed to hold a clip-on light like the Ruffwear Beacon for increased visibility.
