What it is

The Samsung ViewFinity S50GC serves as a massive canvas for those who have outgrown the limitations of a standard 16:9 monitor. By stretching to a 21:9 ultra wide aspect ratio, it offers the equivalent horizontal space of two smaller screens without the distracting center bezel. The VA panel delivers a deep 3000:1 contrast ratio, ensuring that blacks look truly dark rather than washed out grey, making it a strong contender for both office productivity and cinematic media consumption. While marketed with gaming features like AMD FreeSync and a 100Hz refresh rate, this display excels most as a high value workstation. The inclusion of Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes allows you to connect two different computers and view them simultaneously, which is a game changer for developers or researchers. The matte finish and TUV certified eye care technology help maintain comfort during long shifts, though the tilt only stand means you might eventually want to invest in a VESA mount for better ergonomics.

Ravvy AI insight

At its sub 300 dollar price point, this monitor provides exceptional value for its resolution, but be aware that the 100Hz refresh rate is a sweet spot for smooth scrolling rather than high end gaming. The VA panel offers superior contrast over IPS alternatives in this price range, making it better for dark room viewing, though you may notice slight color shifting if viewing from extreme side angles.

tip

Boost the Refresh Rate

Ensure you go into your Windows or Mac display settings to manually set the refresh rate to 100Hz. Many systems default to 60Hz out of the box, which misses out on the added smoothness this panel provides.

Safe Screen Cleaning

This monitor features a matte finish that can be damaged by harsh chemicals. Only use a dry microfiber cloth or a cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to remove fingerprints.

Frequently asked questions

Can this monitor be mounted on an arm?

Yes, it is VESA compatible. Since the included stand only allows for tilting, many users prefer mounting it on a gas spring arm to allow for height and swivel adjustments.

Is the screen curved or flat?

This is a flat panel ultra wide monitor. While some 34 inch displays are curved, the flat design of the S50GC is often preferred by designers and architects who need to ensure straight lines appear perfectly straight.

Does it have built-in speakers?

No, this model does not include internal speakers. It does have a 3.5mm headphone jack that allows you to pass audio from your HDMI or DisplayPort connections to external speakers or headphones.

Is 100Hz good for gaming?

It is a significant upgrade over standard 60Hz monitors, offering smoother motion and reduced blur. While not as fast as 144Hz or 240Hz competitive displays, it is excellent for casual and cinematic gaming.
