What it is

The SIMMAX Swivel Flash Drive offers a practical solution for users who need dependable mobile storage without a premium price tag. Built with a 360 degree rotating metal clip and a rubberized plastic body, it avoids the common nuisance of lost caps while providing a tactile grip. Its 64GB capacity is generous enough to hold thousands of photos or several high definition movies, making it a solid companion for students and office workers alike. While it utilizes the older USB 2.0 standard, it remains highly compatible with legacy hardware and modern systems including Windows, Mac, and Linux. The write speeds are modest, typically hovering around 10 MB/s, which means it is best suited for documents and medium sized media rather than frequent transfers of massive 4K video libraries. It serves as a straightforward, no frills utility tool for digital archiving and file sharing.

Ravvy AI insight

Since this is a USB 2.0 drive, it is ideal for booting operating systems or car audio systems that often struggle with newer USB 3.0 protocols. If you plan to move more than 10GB at a time regularly, consider upgrading to a 3.0 version to save significant time. The swivel design is specifically reinforced here, making it less likely to snap than cheaper all plastic alternatives.

Ownership tips

tip

Optimizing for Large Files

If you need to store files larger than 4GB, such as high-quality movies, reformat the drive from FAT32 to exFAT or NTFS. This allows the drive to bypass the file size limits inherent in older formatting styles.

care

Protecting the Connector

Always ensure the metal swivel is closed over the USB head when carrying it in a bag. This prevents dust accumulation and protects the interior pins from physical bending or static discharge.

Frequently asked questions

Will this work with a USB 3.0 port?

Yes, this drive is fully backwards compatible and will work in any standard USB 3.0 or 3.1 Type-A port. However, it will still operate at USB 2.0 speeds regardless of the port type.

Why does the computer show less than 64GB of space?

This is normal due to the difference in how manufacturers and computers calculate gigabytes. The actual usable space is typically around 58GB to 60GB after the system reserve and formatting.

Is the body made of metal or plastic?

The main body of the drive is made of ABS plastic with a soft rubberized coating for comfort. The protective swivel clip is made of metal to ensure durability during transport.

It is compatible with Mac OS, but you will need a USB-A to USB-C adapter if your Macbook only has the newer, smaller USB-C ports. Once connected, it will function as a standard external drive.
