What it is

The SimpliSafe 8 Piece Wireless System is a foundational security kit designed for renters and homeowners who want to avoid the complexity of hardwired installations. It offers a straightforward setup process that typically takes less than thirty minutes, involving little more than plugging in the base station and adhering sensors to doors and windows. The kit is surprisingly comprehensive for its price point, covering four entry points and one large room with motion detection, all controlled via a sleek, backlit keypad or a smartphone app. What sets this system apart is the flexibility of its service model. Unlike traditional security firms that lock users into multi-year commitments, SimpliSafe operates on a month-to-month basis. You can choose to self-monitor for free or opt into professional monitoring for a daily fee less than the price of a cup of coffee. The hardware itself is understated in white, designed to blend into modern home decor rather than looking like industrial equipment, and the smash-safe keypad ensures the alarm still functions even if the controller is damaged during an intrusion.

Ravvy AI insight

While the hardware is affordable, the true value lies in the Fast Protect monitoring plan which enables the most advanced software features. Buyers should note that without a paid plan, smartphone alerts and smart home integrations like Alexa are significantly limited. It is best to view this as a hybrid system where the low entry cost offsets the eventual subscription for a complete experience.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Motion Sensor Placement

Place the motion sensor in a corner roughly 6 to 10 feet off the ground. This provides a 90 degree field of view and ensures the 35 foot range covers the entire room effectively while avoiding false alarms from pets.

Ownership tips

tip

Use Secret Alerts for Liquor Cabinets

You can set entry sensors to 'Secret Alert' mode in the app. This notifies your phone when a door or cabinet is opened without sounding the loud siren, which is perfect for monitoring restricted areas while you are home.

care

Testing Your System Regularly

Put your system into Test Mode once a month via the keypad menu. This ensures the base station still has a strong cellular and Wi-Fi connection and that all sensor batteries are functioning correctly.
