What it is
The SimpliSafe 9 Piece Wireless System offers a refreshing alternative to traditional, ironclad security contracts. Designed for the modern homeowner or renter, this kit centers on a sleek base station that manages four entry sensors, two motion detectors, and a 1080p indoor camera. The setup is remarkably intuitive, relying on a peel and stick application for sensors that requires zero power tools or permanent drilling, making it an ideal choice for apartments or temporary living situations. Performance is anchored by the dual connectivity of Wi-Fi and cellular backup, ensuring the alarm functions even if the power is cut or your internet goes down. While the system works as a local siren out of the box, its true value is unlocked through the optional professional monitoring. Unlike legacy providers, SimpliSafe allows users to toggle this service on and off monthly, providing high end features like police dispatch and remote app control without the burden of a multiyear commitment.
Ravvy AI insight
SimpliSafe excels in hardware reliability but operates on a hardware as a service model where the most vital software features like remote arming are locked behind a subscription. For the best value, budget for the monthly monitoring fee rather than using it as a standalone local alarm. The pet friendly motion sensors are a standout, significantly reducing false alarms for owners of cats and medium sized dogs.

Optimizing Motion Sensor Placement
Position your motion sensors in corners about 6 to 8 feet off the ground. This provides the widest 90 degree coverage and ensures the pet friendly calibration works correctly for animals under 60 pounds.
Ownership tips
tip
Utilize Secret Alerts
Use entry sensors on liquor cabinets or gun safes and set them to Secret Alert mode. This notifies your phone privately without sounding the main siren, helping you monitor sensitive areas quietly.

Testing Your Connection
Perform a monthly system test through the keypad menu to ensure all sensors are communicating with the base station. This identifies low batteries or signal interference before an actual emergency occurs.
Frequently asked questions
Does SimpliSafe work without a subscription?
Yes, it will function as a local alarm that sounds a siren if a breach occurs. However, you will not receive mobile alerts, remote app control, or professional police dispatch without a paid monthly plan.
What happens if the power goes out?
The base station includes a rechargeable backup battery that keeps the system running for up to 24 hours. If you have a monitoring plan, the system also switches to a cellular signal to maintain protection.
Are the sensors easy to remove when moving?
The sensors use high quality adhesive strips that pull off cleanly without damaging paint. This makes the 9 piece kit an excellent choice for apartment dwellers who need to take their security with them.
How does the camera privacy shutter work?
