What it is

The Travelpro Maxlite 5 is a masterclass in weight reduction for long distance travelers. At just 8.5 pounds for its massive 142 liter capacity, this suitcase allows you to pack significantly more without hitting airline weight limits. The honeycomb frame system provides a rigid structure that protects your belongings while maintaining a flexible profile that can withstand the rigors of the cargo hold. Inside, you will find a thoughtfully organized space with a full length lid pocket and adjustable straps that keep items secure. Movement is fluid thanks to the 360 degree spinners and the patented PowerScope handle. The handle is particularly noteworthy for its ergonomic contour grip, which features rubberized touch points to reduce strain on your hand and wrist during long walks through terminals. While it is a softside bag, the unique bottom tray design adds a layer of impact resistance where it is needed most. This bag is built for those who prioritize volume and ease of handling over the heavy armor of hardshell cases.

Ravvy AI insight

The Maxlite 5 is a value leader because it offers professional grade handle ergonomics usually found in much more expensive lines. However, users should note the 65 linear inch total size; while it usually passes, it technically exceeds the standard 62 inch limit on some restrictive carriers. We recommend using the expansion feature only if you are traveling by car or cruise to avoid oversized baggage fees.

How to get the most out of it

Managing the Expansion

Only unzip the expansion gusset when necessary. Using the extra two inches changes the center of gravity and may make the bag more prone to tipping if it is not packed with the heaviest items at the bottom.

Ownership tips

tip

Maximize Your Weight Allowance

Because the bag itself is so light, you can pack more heavy items like shoes and electronics. Always use a portable luggage scale before heading to the airport to ensure you stay under the 50 pound limit.

care

Fabric Maintenance

To keep the polyester fabric looking new, wipe it down with a damp cloth and mild soap after each trip. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could strip the water resistant coating.
