What it is

The Amazon Basics Pet Training Pads offer a practical solution for housebreaking puppies or managing the needs of aging dogs. Each 22 by 22 inch pad features a five layer construction designed to lock in moisture. The core utilizes super absorbent polymer technology that converts liquid into gel quickly, which helps prevent tracking and minimizes the spread of odors throughout the home. A built in attractant also simplifies the training process by signaling to pets where it is appropriate to go. While these are positioned as standard absorbency pads, the inclusion of a leak proof plastic lining and a wide border ensures that floors remain dry even if a pet misses the center slightly. The 100 count pack provides a significant supply for multi pet households or long term training phases. Because they are FSC certified, buyers can feel more confident about the environmental sourcing of the wood based materials used in the absorbent fluff.

Ravvy AI insight

These pads occupy the sweet spot for value but are best utilized for single use cycles rather than all day duration. For maximum effectiveness, place them on hard surfaces rather than high pile carpets to ensure the plastic backing remains flat and secure. If your dog is a heavy wetter, consider overlapping two pads or stepping up to the heavy duty version offered by the same brand.

Ownership tips

tip

Layering for Protection

If you are leaving a puppy home for several hours, try overlapping two pads. This ensures that if the puppy misses the center of one, the leak proof border of the second captures the excess.

care

Disposal Best Practices

Fold the soiled pad inward to trap the gel and moisture inside the plastic lining before discarding. This helps contain odors and prevents any drips while moving the pad to the trash.

Frequently asked questions

How long can one pad stay out?

It is best to replace the pad after every use to maintain hygiene and prevent odors. If the pet only used a small corner, you may get a second use, but the gel is most effective when fresh.

Does the attractant really work?

The attractant is a scent undetectable to humans that encourages dogs to sniff and linger. While it helps many puppies, consistent positive reinforcement training is still required for best results.

Can these be used for cats or other pets?

Yes, these are frequently used for lining cat carriers, rabbit hutches, or for senior cats who may miss the litter box. The absorbent gel works effectively for most small animal urine.

Are these pads biodegradable?

While the wood pulp is FSC certified, the pads contain a plastic lining and polymer gel that are not biodegradable. They should be disposed of in regular household waste according to local regulations.
