What it is

The LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 75355 is a massive, highly detailed tribute to the galaxy's most famous snub-fighter. As part of the Ultimate Collector Series, this set prioritizes scale and aesthetic accuracy over playability. It features a redesigned wing mechanism that transitions smoothly between flight and attack modes with the turn of a dial, alongside a cockpit that captures the cramped, technical feel of the original movie prop. The build process is complex and rewarding, offering hours of mindful assembly for those who appreciate intricate structural engineering. Measuring over 21 inches long, this model demands significant shelf space. It comes with a dedicated display stand, a detailed information plaque, and a unique Luke Skywalker minifigure featuring printed arm details that are exclusive to this version. While it includes a slot for the R2-D2 figure, the set is firmly positioned as a museum-quality display piece rather than a toy. The inclusion of new building techniques for the engines and fuselage ensures even veteran collectors will find something fresh in this 2023 iteration.

Ravvy AI insight

Compared to previous UCS X-Wings, the 75355 offers superior shaping in the nose and cockpit areas but utilizes stickers for some complex details where prints would be preferred at this price point. Buyers should prioritize this set if they missed the 2013 version, as the updated minifigure and wing mechanics represent a significant technological leap in LEGO design.

How to get the most out of it

Use the LEGO Builder App

For the complex internal wing mechanisms, use the 3D rotation tool in the LEGO Builder app. This helps verify the orientation of Technic pieces which can be tricky in the paper manual.

Ownership tips

tip

Clear ample workspace

Because of the 21.7-inch length and wide wingspan, ensure you have a large, flat surface before beginning. The S-foil mechanism requires careful alignment during the mid-build stages to function smoothly.

care

Manage dust accumulation

Given the many nooks and crannies on the 'greebled' surface, use a soft makeup brush or canned air to clean the model. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent the white bricks from yellowing over time.
