What it is

The 2025 ASUS ROG Strix G16 represents a significant architectural leap for mid-range gaming, combining the latest Intel 14650HX processor with NVIDIA's Blackwell-based RTX 5060. While it retains the signature aggressive styling of the Strix line, the inclusion of a new ACR film on the display significantly reduces glare, solving a common complaint from previous generations. The triple-fan cooling system and liquid metal application ensure that the high-wattage components don't throttle during intense sessions, maintaining a competitive edge in frame rates. Inside, the 16:10 aspect ratio provides more vertical real estate for productivity and creative workflows compared to traditional widescreen laptops. However, this is a machine built primarily for performance stability. The 90Wh battery is substantial for a laptop, but the high-performance internals mean you will still be tethered to a wall outlet for any serious gaming. The addition of Wi-Fi 7 compatibility future-proofs the device for the next generation of high-speed wireless networking.

Ravvy AI insight

The RTX 5060 in this model benefits heavily from DLSS 4, making it a better long-term value than discounted 40-series laptops. Given the 16GB RAM limitation in the stock config, users should plan an eventual upgrade to 32GB to fully utilize the 16-core i7 processor's multitasking potential.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Performance with Armoury Crate

Use the pre-installed Armoury Crate software to toggle between Silent, Performance, and Turbo modes. Turbo mode maximizes fan speeds for heavy gaming, while Silent mode is ideal for library environments.

Ownership tips

tip

Enable MUX Switch for Extra Frames

For maximum FPS, ensure the MUX switch is set to discrete graphics mode. This bypasses the integrated GPU, reducing latency and increasing performance by up to 10 percent in certain titles.

care

Maintaining the Liquid Metal Thermal Compound

Unlike standard thermal paste, the Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal does not dry out quickly. Avoid opening the heatsink assembly yourself, as this can disturb the specialized seal and void your warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Can I upgrade the RAM and storage on this model?

Yes, the Strix G16 features two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 PCIe Gen 4 slots. You can easily upgrade the memory up to 64GB and add a second SSD for extra game storage.

Is the display bright enough for outdoor use?

While the new ACR film helps significantly with glare, the screen is best suited for indoor environments. The anti-reflective coating works well against overhead office lights but may struggle in direct sunlight.

Does it support USB-C charging?

Yes, it supports Power Delivery via one of its USB-C ports. While you will need the large 280W-330W brick for full gaming performance, a smaller 100W PD charger can be used for light work and travel.

What is the benefit of Wi-Fi 7 in this 2025 model?

Wi-Fi 7 offers much higher throughput and lower latency than Wi-Fi 6E. When paired with a compatible router, it provides a more stable wireless connection that rivals a wired Ethernet cable for online gaming.
