What it is

The Shark Detect Pro IW1120 brings a layer of intelligence to everyday floor care by automating the most frustrating parts of vacuuming. Through a suite of sensors, the machine actively identifies hidden debris, detects edges for boosted suction, and adjusts brushroll speed when moving between hardwood and carpets. This removes the guesswork for the user, ensuring the motor only works as hard as it needs to, which helps preserve the 40 minute battery life during lighter cleaning sessions. Physically, this model focuses on ergonomics and allergen control. Weighing in at only six pounds, the redesigned TurboDrive motor provides the suction of a full sized upright without the bulk. The inclusion of a HEPA filter and a completely sealed system ensures that fine dust and pet dander stay trapped inside the unit rather than being exhausted back into your living space. While it lacks the auto-empty base found in higher tier models, its freestanding storage clip and self-cleaning brushroll make it a low maintenance choice for busy homes.

Ravvy AI insight

The Detect Pro is a strategic buy for homes with mixed flooring because its sensors react faster than manual mode switching. However, buyers should note the 240-watt motor is optimized for efficiency; for deep pile carpets, keeping the unit in Detect mode is essential to maximize the 18V battery. If you frequently clean large debris, the PowerFins are excellent, but ensure the HEPA filter is rinsed monthly to maintain the sensor accuracy.

How to get the most out of it

Optimizing Sensor Accuracy

Keep the sensors near the floorhead clean by wiping them with a dry cloth. Dust buildup on the sensors can cause the vacuum to stay in high-suction mode even when the floor is clean, draining the battery faster.

Ownership tips

care

Filter Maintenance

Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters monthly with water only. Allow them to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinserting to maintain peak suction and motor health.

tip

Maximizing Runtime

Use the Detect mode for everyday cleaning rather than forcing Boost mode. The vacuum is designed to intelligently ramp up power only when necessary, which can extend your cleaning time by several minutes.
